OWL: 7th - 10th Grade curriculum
Our Whole Lives: Relationships, Sexuality and Our Faith class. Sexuality education and healthy relationship formation are too important to be ignored in a religious community. Although our society is saturated with images of sex, those images are often lacking in love and mutual respect. Our Whole Lives offers our children and youth a vision more consonant with our beliefs and values from people who affirm the dignity of every individual and who affirm the importance of personal responsibility. Quite simply, OWL is about the facts of life: healthy relationships, communication, human anatomy, sexuality, social pressures, gender identity and related topics. We want to build on what the youth have already learned about making good decisions for themselves that are based on their beliefs and values.
Our Whole Lives helps participants make informed and responsible decisions about their sexual health and behavior. It equips participants with accurate, age-appropriate information in six subject areas: human development, relationships, personal skills, sexual behavior, sexual health, and society and culture. Grounded in a holistic view of sexuality,Our Whole Lives not only provides facts about anatomy and human development, but also helps participants clarify their values, build interpersonal skills, and understand the spiritual, emotional, and social aspects of sexuality.
