 Welcoming Congregation Renewal Resources

Being A Welcoming Congregation

It's been many years since our congregation went through the process of becoming a Welcoming Congregation. Some of us were here then to participate in that process, but many of us were not. In addition, our understanding of what it means to be welcoming has grown and expanded over this time. Identities we may not have been talking about then -- transgender, queer, intersex, genderfluid, and polyamorous, to name a few -- are claimed by people in our congregation, and people who might like to become part of our congregation. So we're going to be taking a look at some of these topics over the next year or so, through discussions, workshops, services, and just a general openness to being curious, asking questions, and being really open to understanding the lives of the people around us, and making each other feel welcome, safe, and loved in our community.
The Welcoming Congregation Team (Ellen Calves [Chair], Tyler Videla, Andy Ferricane, Michael Hardiman, Gayle Mottola, Vicki Bloom, Peg Breen, Tracy Breneman, and Rev. Michael) will be sharing updates and information, with LGBTQI news from all over the UU and in our community. More importantly, we will address any questions you might have on these topics. To this end, we have a Question Box in the fireplace room where you can anonymously place any questions, thoughts, or concerns that you'd like us to address in the column, through workshops or other educational programs. We'll find someone who can talk about anything you're curious about, and get you solid answers from real people.
