A Night of PEACE, LOVE AND COOL STUFF 2019 Service Auction November 2, 2019
Message From the President
Hello, friends and members of UUFNW!
Did you know there is a happenin’ Happening happening? Peace and love will abound as we “Return to Woodstock” for the UUFNW’s annual Service Auction on November 2. There have been many announcements, but if you still somehow haven’t heard the details, you can find them on this page.
Thanks to the generosity and hard work of dozens of volunteers who are putting the Auction together, as well as the fantastic outpouring of donations from so many of our members and friends, we are expecting a lively and exciting Auction.
I didn’t want this moment to pass without talking about why the annual Service Auction has become the UUFNW’s most important fundraising event. It’s about so much more than raising money. It’s about our covenant to each other, to build a strong, loving community.
Of course, the Auction IS a way to raise money. Proceeds from the event account for a significant portion of our operating budget each year.
The Auction directly supports our programs, like Religious Exploration and OWL; our social action outreach, like the Emergency Shelter Partnership and the Interfaith Food Panty; and it also keeps the lights on, the building warm, and the minister in the pulpit!
But the Auction is also about making our faith community strong and inclusive. Every year, the events and services in the catalog amount to a full social calendar for the entire year. Newcomers, longtime members, and folks that have been away—everyone’s a part of it. We meet new people when we invite them to our homes for a meal; we get to know someone better when we plan a garden or engage in a book discussion with them. The first year or so I made it a point to bid exclusively on gatherings where I could meet as many people as possible. I am so glad I did!
The Service Auction events and services enable us to or gather with each other in service, friendship and joy. Of course, nothing can take the place of our Sunday services, which provide a regular weekly hour for gathering in worship, contemplating the principles of our faith and experiencing important connections. But as a community, there are opportunities for connection that are available through participation in the Service Auction, connections that bind us together in ways that go beyond Sunday.
All this is by way of saying that we sincerely hope to see you at the Service Auction on Saturday November 2nd. The evening begins with a delicious dinner and provides you with a few hours to socialize and discover other ways you can connect to this community throughout the year.
Here’s what I’m asking you to do: 1. If you haven’t done so yet, RSVP to the Auction Chair via Facebook (preferable), email to email@example.com or by texting YES!! To 914.439.5989.
2. Think about what items, events and services you might be able to donate, and let us know via the donation form here.
3. As you think about what items you’ll donate and bid on, think about the programs and principles you’d like to support. Because every dollar you spend on Auction night goes directly to the UUFNW.
4. Dig it! Dig through your closet, find something groovy to wear to go along with our Return to Woodstock theme. I know some of us won’t have to dig too deep!
Each one of us is essential to the success of our Fellowship--which is all of us. I’m looking forward to seeing you all there!
Peace, Steffani Steffani Brandenburg UUFNW President
