Youth Group

UUFNW has two youth groups, the Junior Youth Group and the Senior Youth Group. The Junior Youth Group is for young teens in the 7th-9th grades. The Senior Youth Group is for teens in 10th-12th grades. All youth are welcome! Please check the newsletter or Facebook page for more detailed current info. Contact Rev. SENIOR YOUTH GROUP (Grades 10-12)

In 2008-09, the highlight of the Youth Group year was a work trip to New Orleans during spring break--eleven youth and seven adults made the trip!

In 2009-2010, the following activities are planned for Senior Youth Group:

--Biweekly meetings, Sunday evenings at the Fellowship. Meetings include pizza/snacks, discussions, social activities, planning for upcoming events, and more.

--Midnight Run in October/November (to feed the homeless in New York City). [note to advisors: Jeff Crohn and Michael Hardiman are coordinating this]

--Other social action activities, to be planned by the youth.

--Hosting the District Youth Leadership Development Conference, March 19-21, 2010. [Donna suggested and the youth I spoke to were positive about doing this--we are on the district schedule!]

--Attending District (tri-state) Youth Conferences ("Cons").

--Possibility of offering "Our Whole Lives" sexuality curriculum for Grades 10-12 in coordination with the Croton UU Fellowship. [our own Peggy Clarke will be DRE at Croton this year and can hopefully help coordinate]

--Anything else the youth want to take on!

Teens who want to get involved in Youth Group are invited to attend a Sunday evening meeting or get in touch with Lisa, Rev. Michael Tino, or Donna Renfro (DRE) for more information.

Youth Group advisors include Rev. Michael, Kathleen Crohn, Catherine Howard, Diana Rice, and Donna Renfro. Adults who do not have teens in the Youth Group are welcomed as Youth Group advisors/supporters. Contact Lisa Baker, Rev. Michael, or Donna Renfro if you are interested in getting involved.

Senior Youth Group meets every other Sunday evening: September 20, 6:00-8:00 PM, at the Fellowship October 4, 6:00-8:00 PM, at the Fellowship

JUNIOR YOUTH GROUP (Grades 7-9) AKA last year’s amazing COA Class

The Junior Youth Group will have Our Whole Lives (OWL) Values and Abstinence-based Sexuality Education two or three Sunday mornings a month. They will have 4 OWL Overnights during the year, usually led by Rev. Michael and Donna Renfro. All the OWL classes will be taught by specially trained leaders and require parental approval for youth participation. Leaders include Hal Rivadeneira, Steffani Brandenburg, Rev. Michael, Donna Renfro and possible substitutes Michael Jacobi and Cathy Gallagher.

PLUS the Junior Youth will also have one or two Sunday afternoon or evening Youth Group meetings each month. They will plan social and social action events. They will also be encouraged to attend the Metro NY UU District Fall Retreat and Spring Con.
